Staff Pick: Liz Post on the Runventure 2

Staff Pick from Liz Post: Runventure 2

If you happened to notice my last name, it probably won’t surprise you that running has always been a central part of my life. I grew up an athlete, though to be honest, not a very good one. I lacked a competitive edge and discovered my love for philosophy early on when I found myself staring into space, pondering multiple realities while the opposite team scored goals on me. I didn’t like disappointing my teammates, but I loved the pasta parties, so eventually I joined the cross-country team. And no, I didn’t fall in love. I actually really hated it. I would get anxious before races, my throat would tighten, my shins would ache and sting after every run, and I’d wonder why and how anyone could find joy in running.

Runventure 2 Trail Shoe: Liz Post Staff PickFast forward a few years of not running much, but doing a lot of yoga and biking, when I decided to try running again. Something was changing in me and I found peace and tranquility while running.  I was trying out my dad’s shoes and falling in love with them (the original ST, I’ve always been a “less is more” person in the footwear department). I loved the wide toe box; being a yogi with nice flexible toes, it felt like a place for them to live and move freely. I also liked the weightlessness of the shoes and the feeling of being close to the earth. When the Runventure 2 was about to come out, I counted down the days until it was released.

Despite those early cross-country experiences, I always liked the idea of trail running, but I can honestly say I never knew I loved doing it until I wore these shoes. They’re so lightweight and flexible, yet rugged and grippy. They feel surprisingly great running on the concrete hills of San Francisco or hiking the rugged trails in Point Reyes. It feels like I’m wearing almost nothing on my feet, but I suddenly have the grip and agility of a gecko. My favorite thing to do in them is hills. Apparently, I am now a person who LOVES to run up hills.

They not only feel great but function seamlessly! When I got them soaking wet on a muddy trail run I thought I’d have to wait at least a few days for them to dry out in the cold, damp San Francisco climate, but they were good to go the next day! I also travel and camp a fair amount, and I love that these pack down to nothing. Oh, and I should mention, my shin splints are a thing of the past.

I recommend this shoe for those seeking a more minimalist, yet protected (forefoot rock plate) trail shoe. I also want to recommend this shoe if you want to kick your dad’s butt on a trail run.

  1. These shoes are amazing for trail running – and even feel great on the esplanade grass along the Charles river in boston.
